Airfoil is a collective of designers, engineers, and artists helping cutting-edge products in crypto, the creator economy, and future of work take flight. Since our inception in 2019, we’ve worked with 80+ teams to bring their products to market, including Drift Protocol, Layer3.xyz, Solana Labs, Playhouse, Highbeam, and more.

As we increase our involvement in the web3 space and prepare to launch our own product offerings, we’re rapidly growing our Singapore-based (but remote friendly) engineering team.

  • Many of the projects we build are zero-to-one — meaning there’s sometimes not a clear guidebook on how to build the solutions we want to build.

  • We’re rapidly scaling our team, and keeping company culture close-knit while increasing headcount is a challenge.

  • Developer tooling for web3 isn't that mature, and documentation can sometimes be sparse. In certain cases, we may need to build tooling and testing processes ourselves, from scratch.

About this role

We’re seeking to hire a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our engineering team.

Engineers at Airfoil work either on internal products (Cheque, Mira, Flow) or on our partners’ products, typically in 4-6 month cycles (allowing you to contribute to various products across web3). We welcome candidates either in-person in Singapore or remote.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge the gap between design and technical implementation

  • Write application interface code using JavaScript following React.js workflows

  • Collaborate closely with designers and clients, ensuring the technical feasibility of UI design 

  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use 

  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability

Requirements

  • Professional experience with ReactJS and another modern JavaScript web framework (VueJS, Angular, Ember, etc)

  • Experience with writing automated tests (eg. Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, AVA, tape)

  • Experience using Git in a professional/workplace environment

  • A solid understanding in core web and browser concepts (eg. how the browser parses and constructs a web page)

  • A solid understanding of semantic HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript concepts. Nice to have: familiarity with TailwindCSS, StyledComponents, etc

  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment

  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions

  • Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems

  • Positive and solution-oriented mindset

  • An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization

  • Ability to thrive in a fully remote organization

  • Understanding of key design principles

  • Professional communication skills to liaise with designers and clients

  • Nice to have: familiarity with software such as Figma and Illustrator and experience in building web3 products

Workplace

Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic: While the outbreak is in place and working from home is recommended, all work will be conducted remotely. If it is safe to work in person, you will have the option of either working from home or in the office. 

Hiring process

  • Screw technical assessments: Selected candidates will be invited to showcase your projects / portfolio in a short call. Preferably, you have the project in a Github repo for us to review before the call. If we do not have the chance to go through your portfolio, we might opt to send you a short take-home assignment. We’ll do a call with you after to go through your code and possibly refactor it together.

  • Cultural fit: Next, the candidate will be invited to do a 45 minute call with the frontend team. The first 15 minutes will be introductions. Following that, we will pair program for 30 minutes to see how you convert a Figma design into actual code.

  • Next, the candidate will do a call with the CEO.

  • Successful candidates will subsequently be made an offer.
